Green Chile Cheeseburger

Serves 4
For the chile chili:

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds ground beef
  • 2 tomatoes, diced small
  • 1 red onion, diced small
  • 1 jar 505 green chile sauce
  • 10 cloves of garlic, smashed
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 oz vegetable oil

For the burgers:

Ingredients

  • 4 potato hamburger buns
  • 1 ½ pounds ground beef, formed into 4 patties
  • 8 slices of sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1 red onion, peeled and sliced
  • 1 dill pickle, sliced thin
  • 2 tbls mayo
  • ½ jar of 505 fire roasted green chile

Instructions

For the chile chili, heat a large skillet on medium heat and add the vegetable oil. Brown the meat on all sides and add to the slow cooker. Add the onions and garlic to the pan and brown until translucent. Add to the slow cooker with the remainder of the ingredients. Cook slowly for 6 hours until the meat and vegetables completely breakdown to form the chili.

For the burgers, cook on a grill or in the skillet over medium heat, turning regularly until medium rare. Cut the buns and spread ½ a tbls of mayo on the bottom of each bun. Add the burger and top with two slices of cheese. Pour a generous heap of the chile on top, melting the cheese. Top with the onions, pickles and some 505 Southwestern fire roasted green chile. Serve hot and sloppy.

Any leftover chile chili goes perfect with some tortilla chips and nacho cheese.
